About Myself
I am a self-employed Web Designer and Developer and I focus on building clear, usable and accessible websites.
I have been in the industry since 2000 and have seen my fair share of technologies come and go but as well have seen many others raise to the occasion.
I enjoy the creative side of the web: defining the structure, functionality, the "look and feel" of a site and I equally enjoy the building process using semantic HTML for structure, CSS for layout and JavaScript to make the magic.
I believe passionately that the web should be usable by all and I love to think about the little details that make this happen:
- Does this button work if JavaScript is switched off?
- How does this page look if images do not show up?
- What happens to the design of the site if the text size is changed?
Building sites like this requires a particular philosophy: Respect the user.
Respecting the user is about knowing how different users might use your site:
- Not everyone has a powerful PC and large screen.
- All users don't have perfect vision.
- Some can't even use a mouse or Keyboard.
Every person has a different set of needs when it comes to using the web, and if you know this, you can build a site that everyone can use.
