Understanding CSS Grids – My take

July 10, 2019

While I’ve known about CSS grids for the longest time, it wasn’t until recently I decided to take a step and use them in a production environment. I must say, equipped along with CSS flexbox, it makes mocking up sites quick and extremely easy to do.

I think the biggest hurtle every web person faces when switching over to grid is the thought process you have to approach in understanding how it lays out and I can say at first, I somewhat didn’t fully understand but after a day or less of working with it, it’s like you’ve always known how to use them.

If you’re someone whose having difficulty in learning grid, I strongly suggest you open up the inspector panel and click on the “grid” in the code, it’ll highlight your current template that you’re practicing on and since it’s visual, you’ll understand it that much quicker.

For resources, you can never go wrong with Youtube videos from Brian Haferkamp and Layout Land. Some other resources I keep on handy include solved-by-grid.now.sh and gridbyexample.
